Error "ORA-12170: TNS: Connect Timeout occurred" connecting to Oracle

Description
When you connect to an Oracle database from Tableau Server, the following error might occur:

Oracle database error 12170: ORA-12170: TNS: Connect Timeout occurred
Unable to connect to the server "[Oracle_Server]". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Cause

The connection from Tableau Server to the Oracle database is blocked, likely due to a firewall, proxy or any other network security device.
Resolution
Work with your IT team or Oracle database administrator to ensure that Tableau Server can connect to the Oracle database.For more information, see Internet Access Requirements.
