Error "TableauException: Invalid database name value" When Refreshing an Excel Data Source

Description
When refreshing an Excel data source, the following error might occur:

TableauException: Invalid database name value

Cause

Tableau Server cannot locate the file being used.
Résolution
Republish the workbook using the full UNC path to the Excel file used as the data source.

Note: You will need to ensure that the Run As User account can access the file.
  1. Open the workbook, and then right-click the data source in the Data pane.
  2. Select Edit Data Source.
  3. Navigate to Data > Edit Connection.
  4. In the File name field, replace the file name with the full UNC path to the file. For example, \\computername\directory\folder\filename.xlsx
  5. Click Open to replace the data source.
  6. Save and publish the workbook.
