When you attempt to connect to Hive Server with Kerberos authentication, the following error might occur:

[Cloudera][HiveODBC] (34) Error from Hive: SASL(-1): generic failure: GSSAPI Error: Unspecified GSS failure.
Minor code may provide more information (Clock skew too great)

 

Cause

The local system clock is more than 5 minutes out of sync with the Key Distribution Center (KDC).
Ratkaisu
Work with your Hive and Kerberos administrators to ensure that the local system time matches the clock time of the KDC (Kerberos Key Distribution Center.)
