When connecting Tableau Desktop to a SAP HANA calculation view which includes variables or parameters, the Variables and Input Parameters dialog may not appear.
Additionally, the following error may appear in log.txt in the Tableau Desktop logs:
HanaConnection::EnumerateVariables: Error Reading variables: [SAP AG][LIBODBCHDB DLL][HDBODBC] General error;258 insufficient privilege: Detailed info for this error can be found with guid...
The HANA database user does not have the SELECT Privilege on schema _SYS_BIC, which is required to read variables of calculation views.
To troubleshoot this issue, work with your HANA database administrator to try the following options:
Check that the database user has the SELECT Privilege on schema _SYS_BIC.
Verify that the analytic privileges property of the affected calculation view is 'Classical Analytic Privileges'. For more information, see this SAP Community discussion.
