How to solve this problem. Unable to complete action Internal Error - An unexpected error occurred and the operation could not be completed. Error Code: 6EA18A9EI'm currently working on the Google's Advanced Data Analytics Professional Certificate, and im on the Data Viz part. I'm currently using and learning Tableau (I've downloaded the Tableau's Desktop version 2023.3). The part im doing right now is creating data vizzes.

I've been given a dataset of NOAA lightning strikes in the US and need create some vizzes using that dataset, about how many lighting strikes happened in which states and in which years and dates.

The dataset consists of 4 columns, Date, Number of strikes, X coord, Y coord. I placed the Avg of X coord & Y coord on columns and rows respectively which gave me a map of the pinpoint location of the average taken of all the X & Y coords. It came out in the state Arkansas.

Next i placed the Date column in the Filters tab to filter some years (There are only 4 years provided in the dataset & I selected them all following the video).

Now the problem popped out on the next step, which was placing the Date column in the Pages field.

I'm fairly new to Tableau, i tried copying the error and went to Tableau's support and couldn't find a working solution. One of the solution said that using 2020 or older version can cause this error but mine is 2023. Idk what to do. If anyone has came across this kind of error before, please help a fellow out :')

I have the same problem in Tableau Public (Desktop). The problem keeps happening when I try to add Date to Pages in the same dataset of the Google Advanced Data Analytics Professional Certification course mentioned by the original poster:

    Unable to complete action

Internal Error - An unexpected error occurred and the operation could not be completed.

    Error Code: 6EA18A9E

    I tried:

    • Restarting Tableu
    • Restarting computer
    • Redoing the visualization from the beginning
    • Using a different dataset with similar fields

When using Web Authoring in Tableau Public online - all works fine though.

there is a temporary work around, just double click on the active map in the show me panel, the date will automatically move from the pages to the columns; put it back in the pages and that should do it ( at least it did for me). it works as long as you are in the same sheet, if you change the sheet you have to go throw the same processes again.

    hop that will help.

PS: changing the number of strikes in details to dimension fix it permanently.

drag 'number of strikes ' then change type to dimensions , this should solve it 😉😉

I'm new at this and today had the same issue, in my case happens when adding the date field into the page section and the date was already in the filter section.

Based on this behavior I assumed it was conflicting data and after picking just one of the years, the error was gone. Again I'm new so I could be wrong, but it solved it for me.

That's a fairly generic error code, which could be attributed to anything. That it occurs when you add your date field to the Pages Shelf tells me that perhaps your 'date' isn't really a date field and it needs to be recast as date in order for it to properly work with the Pages Shelf.

Also, while your post is descriptive - it gives the volunteers on the forums nothing to work from/with. You should provide a packaged workbook (.twbx), or the URL of the Tableau Public workbook that you're working with, or screenshots of the full view of the worksheet.

    Hi,

First know this, these situations are rare. They don't occur with regularity. If what I suggested didn't work, then (1) start with a fresh new Tableau Public Desktop workbook or (2) attempt the same effort with Tableau Public but using the web-version. Unless we have access to the workbook and related data there's not much more we can do but suggest solutions.

Try first removing the field from Pages Shelf, save your work, close out of Tableau Public, restart device, then reopen Tableau Public and attempt again.
