Setup Fails Because Checkprocessorspecs.exe is Blocked

Date de publication: Mar 6, 2025
Description

When running a Tableau installer, the Checkprocessorspecs.exe application is blocked by a security application or policy (e.g. software restriction policies (SRP)), so the installation does not complete.

Cause

As part of the install process for Tableau products on a Windows computer, the Checkprocessspecs.exe application is run to check that the CPU supports SSE4.2 and POPCNT instruction sets, as required by Tableau products.

Résolution
Whitelist Checkprocessorspecs.exe in the security application or policy that is blocking the application to allow the install process to complete successfully.
Ressources supplémentaires
In addition to Checkprocessorspecs.exe, the Tableau Desktop installer also contains the following .msi and .exe files (which are included in the Tableau Desktop install process):
  • Microsoft SQL Server and  PostgreSQL driver installers (e.g. msodbcsql_17.5.1.1_x64.msi and psqlodbc09060504_x64.msi)
  • The Tableau Desktop .msi installer (e.g. tableau-setup-std-tableau-2021-3.21.0917.1006-x64.msi)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages (required by Tableau Desktop, e.g. vcredist2013_x64.exe, vcredist2019_x64.exe)

The Tableau Desktop .exe installer can be unpacked using the steps outlined in Extract and run the Windows (MSI) installer to obtain the above files.

An alternative to running the Tableau Desktop .exe installer (to install Tableau Desktop) is to run the Tableau Desktop .msi file instead.
