When connecting to a view in Tableau Cloud the error presents instead of the view rendering as expected:

[SQLSTATE:58S01] error opening database <database name>: There was an error during loading the database:
The database does not exist. Unable to connect to the data extract server "".
Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Cause

A SQL database connection error has occurred.
Løsning

Workaround

For workbooks with embedded data sources the Tableau Desktop client must be used as instructed below:

  1. Download the workbook to your computer.
  2. Open the .twbx in Tableau Desktop.
  3. Right-click on the data source and select the extract menu.
  4. From the extract menu choose refresh. 
  5. After the refresh is complete, republish the workbook to Tableau Cloud.
