Multiple URL actions may not open multiple tabs when published to Tableau Server

Date de publication: Apr 6, 2026
Description

When two or more URL actions are assigned to a single mark/click, opening multiple tabs works as expected in Tableau Desktop but not Tableau Server.

Cause

Pop-up blockers built in to your browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge) may be preventing Tableau Server from opening all tabs successfully.
Résolution
Adjust the web browser security settings to allow pop-ups from your Tableau Server URL.

In Chrome, if we switch back to the Tableau Server tab after triggering the URL actions, there may be a notification on the right side of the address bar warning that pop-ups were blocked for the site. Clicking on this notification allows us to allow pop-ups from Tableau Server.

Alternatively, if the above "pop-ups blocked" notification is not showing in the address bar after triggering the URL actins, please take the following steps in Chrome to allow pop-ups for your own Tableau Server URL:
  1. At the top right, click the three dots menu > Settings
  2. From the left side menu, navigate to Privacy and security
  3. Go to Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects
  4. Under "Customized behaviors" there are two sections, "Not allowed to send pop-ups or use redirects" and "Allowed to send pop-ups or use redirects"
  5. Under "Allowed to send pop-ups or use redirects" click the Add button and add your Tableau Server URL to the list of allowed sites
