Error “Host is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server”

When users connect to MySQL in Tableau Desktop, the following error might occur:
 

There was an unknown connection error to the database. The error message below has additional information, but you might need to ask the database administrator to review the database logs.
[MySQL][ODBC 8.0(w) Driver]Host 'x.x.x.x' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server
 

Cause

The computer running Tableau Desktop is not allowed to connect to the MySQL database.
 

Solución

Whitelist the IPs connecting to the MySQL Server

  • Work with MySQL administrator and/or IT network team to unblock the machine whose IP is used to connect to the MySQL server.
