Unable to deactivate the LBLM activation from Tableau Desktop using the "Manage Product Keys" option.
If the desire is to transfer the activation of Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder to another user, it is possible to unlicense the user or demote the user to an Explorer or Viewer role. Unlicensing or demoting the user on Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server, will stop the Tableau Desktop from refreshing the activation and stop any future activation attempts. The activation capacity can then be assigned to a new Creator user on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud. Tableau Desktop should be uninstalled from the prior user's machine.
If a maximum activation limit has been reached because too many machines have been activated without the prior LBLM activation capacity/use not ending, the exceeded LBLM activations need to expire before an activation can occur on a new machine.
1. Tableau Desktop or Prep is not opened on the machine for the duration of the LBLM activation duration setting. For example, If the ATR duration is 5 days, the Desktop must be closed (not talking to Server or Cloud) for 5 days to free the activation for use on another machine.
2. Tableau Desktop can be uninstalled. The LBLM activation will stop refreshing because the Desktop software is not in use.
3. ATRDIAG -deleteAllATRs can be issued on the command line to stop the LBLM activation from refreshing by removing the current activation on a specific machine. This removes the LBLM activation from the local machine only and does delete the LBLM activation from the LBLM License Service. It will stop the refresh from happening which allows the activation capacity to be free for another attempt when the duration of the activation has ended.
More information on returning your computer to an unlicensed state is available in the Tableau Help.
To understand what activation duration was set and when the specific Tableau Desktop activation will end, on the command line, run the command "atrdiag". Find the TTL Start and TTL End values which represent the activation duration.
