Site Admins Receiving Emails Recently About Hitting Daily Extract Quota

Description

Site admins may report suddenly starting to receive emails about hitting their extract refresh capacity limit in Tableau Cloud.

Cause

Tableau Cloud sites get 8 backgrounder hours for every 1 Creator license purchased. For example, if the site has 5 Creator licenses, the site gets 8x5 backgrounder hours = 40 hours of backgrounder time daily. Daily jobs capacity resets each day at 24:00:00 UTC (coordinated universal time).

For recent occurrences, this may because the extract refreshes have gotten larger (and thus running longer) and have started hitting the maximum daily job capacity.

To workaround the issue, use the steps listed under Tips for optimizing extract refreshes capacity on the Site Capacity article for best practices to make the most efficient use of your site capacity.

  • Site admins can use the Background Tasks for Extracts site admin view to tally up the total daily run-time of their extracts and possibly use this to identify and track longer running extract refreshes.
  • Additional Creator licenses can be purchased and added to increase available backgrounder daily time.
