"Error Code: FAB9A2C5. Failed to authenticate the user 'email account' in Active Directory" Error Occurs When Connecting to Azure SQL Database via OAuth Authentication Using Azure AD

Description

Issue

When a non-administrative user connects to Azure SQL Database via OAuth authentication using Azure Active Directory, the following error occurs.
 

Error Code:FAB9A2C5
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server][SQL Server]Failed to authenticate the user 'email account' in Active Directory
Error code 0xCAA90018; state 10
Could not discover a user realm.
Unable to connect to Azure SQL Database server "server name". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database. 

 

Cause

The user is not granted application permission to access your organization's data.
 

Résolution
If you use "Azure Active Directory via OAuth" authentication type, configure user consent settings or enable the admin workflow through the Azure portal.
Configure how users consent to applications

As a workaround, use the "Username and Password" authentication type.
