When running the upgrade-tsm script to upgrade Tableau Server, the upgrade fails with an "Operation Failed" error after the "Verifying Active Directory connection" step.
The following is an example of the command prompt output when this issue occurs:
Verifying that the upgrade script is running from the correct environment.
Validating Tableau Server version.
Verifying that the new packages have been installed on all cluster nodes.
Verifying Active Directory connection.
Operation failed.
This version of the upgrade-tsm script allows you to retry a failed upgrade from the last successful step. Retry the upgrade by rerunning the upgrade-tsm script.
Tableau Server Upgrade encountered an unexpected error.
This issue occurs because the user account that performed the upgrade-tsm script does not have permission to access or bind to the Active Directory (AD). In a Windows environment, this can happen if the customer is using an account that is only in the local Administrators group and is not a domain user.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
upgrade-tsm script again.runas command in the Command Prompt. It does not work as expected when performing upgrade-tsm and provides no feedback on the Command Prompt.
