Description

When connecting Tableau Server, Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder to a Microsoft SQL Server database, date fields may be interpreted as text fields. 

Cause

Incorrect driver version in use.

Resolution

Uninstall older versions of Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server (e.g. SQL Server Native Client 10.0).

Install one of the following Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Servers, which you can download from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/odbc/download-odbc-driver-for-sql-server?view=sql-server-ver16:

For Tableau Server versions 2023.3 and earlier, select v17 of the ODBC driver. For Tableau Server versions 2024.2 and newer, select v18 of the ODBC driver.

For Tableau Desktop and Prep Builder versions earlier than 2024.1, select v17 of the ODBC driver. For Tableau Desktop and Prep Builder versions 2024.1 and newer, select v18 of the ODBC driver.
