After activating Tableau Server offline with the ATR service, in versions 2023.1 or later , it is not possible to deactivate a key offline with ATR.
Users who have activated their Tableau Server licenses offline through ATR will encounter the following limitations:
tsm licenses get-offline-deactivation-file -k <productkey> -o <deactivation-file-directory>
Feature is not built into the product at this time.
If you're receiving a "max extra activations exceeded" error, contact Tableau Technical Support with the following information:
Support will perform a manual deactivation on the license service backend.
To remove license information from the local Tableau Server installation:
NOTE : Do not start Tableau Server without valid licenses after completing these steps.
Stop all Tableau Server services before proceeding.
Linux:
sudo su -l tableau
atrdiag -deleteAllATRs -product "Tableau Server"
exit
Windows:
atrdiag -deleteAllATRs -product "Tableau Server"
Linux:
sudo su -l tableau
atrdiag.exe -product "Tableau Server"
exit
Windows:
atrdiag.exe -product "Tableau Server"
Additionally, confirm removal using:
tsm licenses list
