Description

Microsoft SQL Server extract refreshes fail with the following errors:

Error code: 2F0F5E42
'TRY_CONVERT' is not a recognized built-in function name.
Incorrect syntax.
 

Cause

Newer versions of Tableau use the TRY_CONVERT function in some scenarios to avoid potential issues with ISNUMERIC varchar to float conversion errors for SQL Server.
Résolution
The TRY_CONVERT function is unavailable when the Microsoft SQL Server database compatibility level is less than 2012.

Work with your Microsoft SQL Server administrator to change the compatibility level to 110 (SQL 2012) or 120 (SQL 2014 and higher) in order to use TRY_CONVERT that occurs with newer versions of Tableau Desktop.
