When activating Tableau Desktop by signing in to Tableau Server (i.e. using login-based license management (LBLM)), the following error may occur:

An unexpected error occurred during activation (error 1002). If this issue persists, contact Tableau Support.

Cause

Tableau Server is unable to access internet locations required for licensing purposes.
Ratkaisu
Work with your networking team to ensure that Tableau Server can access internet locations required for licensing purposes as stipulated in Communicating with the Internet.
