Tableau Desktop logins to Tableau Server using Mutual SSL fail with SSL Error 9F4C5638 after upgrading to a Tableau Desktop version released in November of 2021 or newer. The Tableau Server Mutual SSL configuration "Use username and password if SSL authentication fails" checkbox is not selected.
Upgrade Tableau Desktop to 2022.2.1 and newer versions.
Enable the option on Tableau Server to fall back to username and password if Mutual SSL fails.
This change will prevent the SSL Error in Tableau Desktop and allow for Mutual SSL logins to succeed. Please note that this change will allow for logins without using Mutual SSL which could be unacceptable at your organization.
Tableau Prep Builder will not produce this error when logging into Tableau Server.
