Retirement of Quip Desktop App for Windows and Quip Mobile App for Android

Q. What does this change mean for me?
A. On June 6, 2024, Quip users can no longer access Quip through the Quip desktop app for Windows or the Quip mobile app for Android. Instead, users must access Quip through a supported browser. This means that users cannot utilize offline edits on Android and Windows devices.

Q. What will I see when I try to access the app?
A. Windows:
Users will see the following error message: Some changes have not been saved to the internet.
Android:
Users will see two different error messages: The Android app for Quip is fully retired as of June 6, 2024. You may continue to use Quip on your Android device using a supported browser. To navigate to Quip in your device’s default browser, click here.

Or, when trying to click on the page and buttons: Error, we could not connect to Quip. There may be a problem with your network connection, or there may be a temporary error with the service.

Q. What action can I take?
A. Quip recommends uninstalling the Quip desktop app for Windows from your Windows device or uninstalling the Quip mobile app for Android from your Android device, as both apps are no longer supported with security updates. Instead, users must access Quip through a supported browser.

Q. What happens if I don’t take action?
A. You won’t be able to log in and use the Quip desktop app for Windows or the Quip mobile app for Android.

Q. Why are you making this change?
A. We are constantly evaluating all areas of the product to ensure we’re focusing resources on the capabilities that deliver the most value to customers; and unfortunately the usage of these two apps was very low compared to the whole customer base. We understand that this may have a negative impact on the users who rely on them, but we made this tough decision to ensure that the overall Quip product continues to be reliable, stable, and performant for all of our customers.
