Create an SMS Vote or Survey flow without using the Keyword in SMS response

Publish Date: Oct 7, 2024
Description

Creating a message flow for contacts to participate in a survey or vote without requiring the keyword be included in the response. The need to use the common keyword along with valid responses is due to the content automatically populating the Keyword along with the valid response during the message creation process when using the Vote/Survey template.

Resolution

Create a message flow utilizing the Text Response Template to avoid requiring the Keyword to be included in SMS vote/survey responses.

This process is replicating the flow of a Vote/Survey templated message initiated when a Contact sends in the Keyword ‘SAMPLE’. A response is triggered for the Contact to submit their survey response, and then that Contact will receive a confirmation response.

To replicate this flow, with Text Response messages, two templates with two Keywords are needed. In the scenario below, we will be using the keywords ‘SAMPLE’ & ‘SAMPLE1’.

  • The first Text Response message will be associated with the Keyword, ‘SAMPLE’, which will then trigger the response that we're interested in using:

“What kind of content do you want to receive from us? Reply with a letter of your choice:
A - Product Launches
B - Discounts & Offers
C - I’d love to see both!”

Create a Text Response Message in MobileConnect

  • With the configuration of the first message, we now need to create the Next Keyword ‘SAMPLE1’. Using the Next Keyword creates a conversation, which will associate or capture any further responses with the second Text Response message.

Use Next Keyword

  • Create a general response or a dynamic response using the second Text Response message associated with the Keyword, ‘SAMPLE1’.

How To use MobileConnect AMPScript MSG(0), VERB and NOUN(0)

The message flow of a Contact would now look like this:

Contact sends in the Keyword, ‘Sample’, the contact then receives a response from the first Text Response. Prompting them with '“What kind of content do you want to receive from us? Reply with a letter of your choice: A - Product Launches, B - Discounts & Offers, C - I’d love to see both!”

Based on the use of the Next Keyword, the contact responds with A, B, or C, this will trigger the response set for the second Text Response message or a general response such as ‘Thanks for participating!', because the Next Keyword created the conversation and then associated it with the next message.
