What Happens After the Retirement

Users who try to open the retired Quip apps see error messages indicating the apps can no longer connect to Quip's servers. All document content and data remains intact — nothing is deleted. The only change is the access method.

  • Windows users: The Quip desktop app shows a sync error and cannot connect. Access Quip at your company's Quip site URL in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.
  • Android users: The Quip mobile app shows a retirement message with a link to open Quip in the device's default browser. Tap the link or navigate directly to your Quip site URL in Chrome or another supported browser.

What Is Available in the Browser

All Quip functionality that was available in the desktop and mobile apps is available in a supported browser, including:

  • Creating, editing, and collaborating on documents and spreadsheets
  • Chat rooms and direct messages
  • Folders, Favorites, and Collections
  • Live Apps and Salesforce data integration
  • Notifications and @mentions

What Is No Longer Available

  • Offline editing on Windows and Android: The native apps supported offline editing with automatic sync when connectivity was restored. Browser-based access requires an internet connection.
  • Native OS integrations on Windows: Push notifications through Windows notification center and taskbar access are no longer available in browser mode.
  • Native Android gestures: The Android app provided native touch gesture support. Browser experience on Android may differ slightly from the native app experience.

iOS and Mac Are Not Affected

The Quip mobile app for iOS and the Quip desktop app for Mac continue to be available and are not affected by this retirement. Mac and iOS users do not need to make any changes.
