What to Expect with the Windows & Android Retirement

The Android mobile app and Windows desktop app will be retired on June 6th, 2024, with more information found within these guides, Supported Browsers and Devices for Quip and within Retirement of Quip Desktop App for Windows and Quip Mobile for Android.

Users will see the following behavior when trying to use either application:

For the Android App, users will see this main message, 

"The Android app for Quip is fully retired as of June 6, 2024. You may continue to use Quip on your Android device using a supported browser. To navigate to Quip in your device’s default browser, click here". Users can also see an error pop-up when trying to click in the Android App on buttons in the page, or when trying to click into the page, "Error, we could not connect to Quip. There may be a problem with your network connection, or there may be a temporary error with the service".

To continue to use Quip on your Android device, please open your devices web browser to login and access your content.

For the Windows App, users will see the following message once updated, "Some changes have not been saved to the internet". The Windows app will be inaccessible as mentioned prior in the banner displayed, we recommend that users switch to their web browser to continue to edit and access their Quip account.

The Quip team provided banners and updates on the following times and platforms:

• The Quip Windows Desktop App was updated on May 6th to show a banner that outlined the retirement.
• The Quip Android App was updated in the Google Play store on May 2nd, 2024 and displayed a banner starting on May 6th that outlined the retirement.
• The Quip team released emails on April 23rd, 2024 to Quip Site Admins to outline the retirement.

Quip recommends uninstalling the Quip desktop app for Windows from your Windows device or uninstalling the Quip mobile app for Android from your Android device, as both apps are no longer supported with security updates. Instead, users must access Quip through a supported browser.
