Difference Between Account Team Member Access and Team Member Access View in Salesforce

Date de publication: May 26, 2026
Description

Issue Description

In Salesforce, a discrepancy may appear in the access levels displayed for team members when viewed from two different locations:

  1. The Team Member Access action on an Account record
  2. The individual Account Team Member (ATM) record

Specifically, the access level for Opportunity and Case access may show as Read Only in the Team Member Access action, even though Private access was explicitly configured when the Account Team Member (ATM) record was created. This can cause confusion about which level of access the team member actually has.

Explanation

This behavior is working as designed.

The Team Member Access action displays the consolidated (highest) access level that the user has across all access methods in Salesforce. These methods include:

* Sharing Rules
* Role Hierarchy
* Profiles
* Manual Sharing
* Access granted directly on the ATM record

Because the user may have higher access granted through one of these other methods (such as a Sharing Rule or their Role in the Role Hierarchy), the Team Member Access view reflects that elevated level — which may be higher than what was explicitly set on the ATM record itself.
In contrast, opening the individual Account Team Member (ATM) record shows only the access level that was directly assigned when the ATM record was created. A banner on the ATM record also confirms that the team member's actual access may be higher than displayed, based on other access sources in Salesforce.
