Users encountering unhandled exception errors containing (-433980896) or (2011238796) relating to Flows using virtual entities may be experiencing errors due to indirect references to related entities.

Why This Happens

Tooling API exposes objects like EntityDefinition and FieldDefinition that use the external object framework. That is, they don't exist in the database but are constructed dynamically.

For example, using EntityParticle.EntityDefinitionId to assign variables from a FieldDefinition with a similar EntityDefinitionId will throw one of the above errors.

Workaround

Flows using these entities can use direct queries on the virtual entity to get the necessary data, rather than assigning variables across separate EntityDefinition/FieldDefinition/EntityParticle references.

Alternatively, Custom Metadata Types can be created to mirror the EntityParticle and FieldDefinition data your Flow needs, avoiding the indirect virtual-entity reference entirely. See the Salesforce documentation on Custom Metadata Types for setup details.
