Tableau Bridge Extract Refresh Fails if UNC Path Contains Double-Byte Spaces

Publish Date: Jul 9, 2026
Description

When attempting to refresh a file-based data source via Tableau Bridge, the extract refresh fails with one of the following errors:

- No Clients in Tableau Bridge Pool
- Bridge live queries and extract refreshes can’t run because at least one client needs to be in the pool to keep data fresh.
- NO_POOLED_AGENTS_ASSIGNED

Cause:
This occurs because when a UNC path contains double-byte spaces (full-width spaces), Tableau Cloud cannot correctly identify the domain. As a result, it fails to route the job to the configured custom pool and falls back to the Default pool. If the Default pool has no assigned Bridge clients, the refresh fails.

Resolution
Replace the full-width spaces with single-byte spaces or underscores in the UNC path. To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

1. Rename the file or folder to remove double-byte spaces (e.g., replace with single-byte spaces or underscores).
2. In Tableau Desktop, edit the data source connection to use the newly updated UNC path.
3. Republish the data source to Tableau Cloud.
