Salesforce retired the legacy perpetual license model for Tableau Server and Tableau Desktop Software as of March 1, 2024. Support and Maintenance Services for perpetual licenses are no longer available for renewal. However, Salesforce will continue to honor all remaining active contracts for Support and Maintenance Services entered into prior to this date.
What does this change mean for me?
You may continue using your perpetual licenses for Tableau Server and/or Tableau Desktop Software in perpetuity. You may upgrade your installed Software version to any version of Tableau Server or Tableau Desktop released before your Support and Maintenance Services expiration date. At the end of your Support and Maintenance Services term, your unsupported perpetual licenses may still be used without access to the benefits of Support and Maintenance Services, but may not be commingled with supported licenses in any Deployment.
To be eligible for Support and Maintenance Services beyond your current contract expiration date, you must purchase a new subscription for the current Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server product offerings. These offerings offer similar User-based and/or Core-based licensing models alongside enhanced product features and capabilities.
What action can I take?
No immediate action is needed; your existing perpetual licenses will continue to be supported until the end of your Support and Maintenance Services contract term. Afterward, unsupported perpetual licenses may be used in a standalone Deployment, separate from any supported subscription licenses, without access to Tableau version upgrades or Technical Support.
