Dataloader for Windows install.bat Closes Immediately After Execution

Fecha de publicación: Oct 31, 2025
Descripción

This article explains why the install.bat file for Data Loader on Windows may open and close instantly without completing the installation.

This behavior typically occurs in the following scenarios:

  • The installation file is located in a folder path that contains non-alphanumeric characters (such as Japanese characters)
  • The required Java environment variables are not properly configured

For example, a user may double-click the install.bat file and see a command prompt window briefly appear and then disappear. This indicates that the script failed to execute due to one of the conditions above.

Check Installation Path

Ensure that the installation file is located in a path that contains only alphanumeric characters:

  • Move the downloaded installer to a folder without special or non-English characters
  • Example of a supported path: C:\DataLoader\

Configure Java Environment Variable

  1. Create a new system environment variable:
    1. Name: DATALOADER_JAVA_HOME
  2. Set the variable value to the Java (Zulu) installation path:
    1. Example: C:\Program Files\Zulu\zulu-(version_number)\bin\
  3. Save the changes and restart the command prompt before running the installer again

Note: Configuring system environment variables is an operating system–level task and is not supported by Salesforce. For assistance, refer to Microsoft documentation or support.
