Sales (formerly known as Sales Cloud) Checklist

  • Check that the Connected App Authentication is set up properly:
    • Navigate to Salesforce > Setup > Quick Find > Connected Apps > Manage Connected Apps, then click “Salesforce Marketing Cloud”
    • Under Permitted Users, ensure “Admin approved users are pre-authorized” is selected
    • Under IP Relaxation, ensure “Relax IP restrictions” is selected.
    • Under Refresh Token Policy, ensure “Immediately expire refresh token” is selected
    • Click into the Permission Set record under Permission Sets in the Connected App:
      • Click “Manage Assignments”
      • Ensure that the Connected App Permission Set contains the dedicated Salesforce System User and any impacted users
      • If it is not, click “Add Assignment”, select the relevant user, then click “Next”
  • Check the User Permissions for the Salesforce System User and any impacted user:
    • Active?
    • User License: Salesforce
    • Profile: System Administrator
    • Ensure Marketing User is checked
    • Depending on the user’s needs (both required for the Salesforce System User):
      • Marketing Cloud for AppExchange User: This non-admin permission lets Salesforce CRM users access the Marketing Cloud Connect interface, enabling them to perform sends. If the account is configured as “scope by user,” users view and send to only the records they own.
      • Marketing Cloud for AppExchange Admin Permission: This Salesforce CRM admin permission lets admins view all data and send to any contact, lead, campaign, or report.

Marketing Cloud Checklist

  • Check if the Marketing Cloud API User found above or other impacted user is integrated by navigating to Marketing Cloud > Setup > Users > Marketing Cloud API User
    • If the Salesforce.com Status shows as ‘Integrated’, click “Modify Settings”, and ensure this is set as the Salesforce System User or other System Admin user with the proper permissions on the Salesforce side
      • If this field shows as not integrated, then no API Calls can be made to Sales Cloud to perform actions of the integration
  • Ensure the Marketing Cloud API User user has the following:
    • Administrator and Marketing Cloud Administrator Roles assigned
      • Navigate to Marketing Cloud > Setup > Roles, click the check box next to Administrator, then click “View Assignments”
      • Complete the same steps for the Marketing Cloud Administrator role
    • API User is checked
    • Access to the relevant Business Unit
  • Verify the Scope By User settings (common cause of data availability issues)

Other Considerations

  • Log into Sales Cloud in an incognito window as the Salesforce System User, navigate to App Switcher > Marketing Cloud to open the Marketing Cloud Settings
    • If you see the Email Send page, click “Configure Marketing Cloud Connector”

    • If you see the Connect to Marketing Cloud page, please complete the following:
      1. Click “Connect the MC API User” or “Marketing Cloud API User”
      2. Click “Connect to Marketing Cloud“
      3. Login as the Marketing Cloud API user
      4. Click on the Marketing Cloud tab again (you may need to click connect once more)
