Gift Transaction Considerations for Gift Designations Importing into Nonprofit

Unlike the legacy Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) model, Agentforce Nonprofit (formerly Nonprofit Cloud) fundraising does not automatically assign any Gift Transaction Designations (neither Campaign Default Designations nor the Designation marked as Default will be assigned) through data import methods like Salesforce Data Loader when importing Gift Transactions. This architecture choice was made early on to avoid complexities and breakages that occurred in NPSP, but may result in unexpected outcomes as an NPSP transitioning user.

Key differences:

• NPSP has its own importing tool, where Nonprofit utilizes different methods for data insertion, like Gift Entry UI and the Business Process API.
• NPSP uses Save Hooks to automatically insert related records. This architecture was difficult for users to manage and work around, and prone to breakage, leading to the product and developer decision for change in Nonprofit leading into update Summer'23.
