Excel Export Error When a Salesforce Report Name Contains Full-Width Characters

When a report with characters like “：” (full-width colon) in its name is exported to Excel (.xlsx), Excel may show this error:
“We found a problem with some content in 'FileName.xlsx'. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.”

Risoluzione

This error occurs because Excel does not support full-width versions of characters that it treats as reserved file-system characters. Replacing full-width characters with their half-width equivalents in the report name prevents the error.

Avoid using the following full-width characters in the report name. By using half-width characters instead of full-width characters, the error message will no longer appear.

The error occurs with full-width characters such as the following examples:

  • Colon (：)
  • Backslash (＼)
  • Slash (／)
  • Question mark (？)
  • Asterisk (＊)
  • Left square bracket (［)
  • Right square bracket (］)
