When using Gift Entry in NonProfit Success Pack (NPSP), you may get this example Error Message: "The lookup value provided in Donation Imported, or Payment Imported, is not valid."

The error occurs when a reference value (like donor or payment ID) in the imported data doesn't match existing records. Check for missing, mismatched, or incorrectly formatted lookup values.

It seems like the error "The lookup value provided in Donation Imported, or Payment Imported, is not valid" can be related to several factors. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Field Access: Confirm that the affected user has access to the fields involved in the import. Ensure that the fields are available in the page layout and field-level security settings.

2. Profile and Record Type: Ensure the user's profile has at least one assigned record type, and the corresponding page layout includes the necessary fields.

3. Field-Level Security: Double-check the user's profile's field-level security settings to verify they have access to the field. You can review field access by field, profile, or record type in Setup by searching for "Field Accessibility."

4. Custom Master-Detail and Lookup Relationships: Ensure that custom lookup fields are set up correctly. Standard lookups can be matched using either the Salesforce record ID or the record name. Ensure this same flexibility (matching by ID or name) is available for custom lookup fields as well.

5. NPSP Data Importer Configuration: If you are using the NPSP Data Importer, make sure that the global batch size and matching settings are configured correctly. You can access these settings through the App Launcher by selecting "NPSP Data Imports" and then configuring the import options.

6. Donation Matching Options: Ensure that the donation matching rules are set up correctly. The Donation Imported or Payment Imported fields must be populated correctly for the match to occur.
