Salesforce Platform: Internal Server Error Adding Apex Class to Permission Set

Error Symptoms:

The user encounters a Salesforce "Internal Sever Error" message when attempting to add an Apex class to any of the permission sets.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. From Setup, enter Permission Sets in the Quick Find box, then select Permission Sets.
  2. Select a permission set.
  3. Click Apex Class Access.
  4. An internal server error is observed on the page.
Résolution

Resolution Steps:

  • In order to avoid the "Internal Server Error" when you have a large number of Apex class assignments for permission sets, enable a paginated result set, standard filtering, and sorting to work more efficiently. 
  • To mitigate this issue, try enabling Enhanced Permission Set Component Views in the affected org.
    • Steps to enable the permissions:
      1. Login as Admin
      2. Go to Setup
      3. Go to 'User Management Settings'
      4. Enable the setting "Enhanced Permission Set Component Views"
