Issue with Creating Dataset Using Legacy Data Manager (Large File Upload Stuck at 0%)

When uploading large CSV files (1GB or larger) to create a new dataset using the Legacy Data Manager in CRM Analytics, users may observe that the progress bar remains at 0% and there is no job ID displayed in the Job Monitor. This behavior can be misleading, making it appear that the upload is stuck or not processing. However, this is expected behavior due to the way the Legacy Data Manager handles large file uploads.

 

Note: Uploading the same file using Analytics Studio (New Data Manager UI) completes successfully and shows appropriate progress.

  • Root Cause: The Legacy Data Manager handles large file uploads by breaking them into smaller chunks and sending them to the server one by one. During this chunked upload phase, no visible progress is shown on the progress bar, and the job ID doesn’t appear in the Job Monitor because the job isn’t officially created until the upload completes. Consequently, the progress bar remains at 0% until the entire file is uploaded to the server. Once the upload is complete, and the system begins processing the data, the progress bar reflects the status, and a job ID is assigned.

 

  • Workaround/Verification: If you encounter this issue and want to confirm that the upload is in progress, open Developer Tools in your browser (F12 in most browsers) and go to the Network tab. Monitor for continuous HTTP requests being sent to the server, as these represent the chunks being uploaded. If requests are actively being sent, the upload is ongoing and not stuck.

 

  • Recommendation: For large dataset uploads, it’s recommended to use the Analytics Studio (New Data Manager UI) instead of the Legacy Data Manager, as it offers better handling of large files, real-time progress updates, and immediate visibility of job creation.

 

  • Additional Notes: This behavior is specific to the Legacy Data Manager. No action is required unless the upload remains stuck for an extended period after chunked uploads are complete. Once the file is fully uploaded, you can monitor completed jobs from the Monitor tab.
