List API Name Field Is Not Displayed When Creating a List View

Description

When creating a list view in Salesforce, some users may notice that the List API Name field is not displayed.

This occurs when the user does not have the Customize Application permission. In such cases, Salesforce automatically generates a unique API name in the background, allowing the list view to be created without manual input.

Résolution

The visibility of the List API Name field is controlled by user permissions.

To make the field visible:

  1. Assign the Customize Application permission to the user via:
    • Profile, or
    • Permission Set
  2. After the permission is granted, the List API Name field will appear during list view creation.

Note:

  • The Customize Application permission provides broad administrative access
  • Review its impact before assigning it to users
