How to Upgrade Drivers for Tableau Server

Here are the steps to restart Tableau Server and OS for maintenance activities, such as upgrading ODBC drivers:

1. Run the 'tsm stop' command and wait for all Tableau Server processes to stop.

2. Use the 'tsm status -v' command to verify that the Tableau Server is in 'Stopped' Status.

3. Uninstall the old versions of the database drivers to prevent any conflicts. 

4. Install the new versions of the database drivers. 

5. Reboot the OS.

6. After the OS reboots, Use the 'tsm status -v' command to verify that the Tableau Server is in 'Stopped' Status.

7. run the 'tsm start' command to restart Tableau Server. 

Note: Stopping the server (Step 1) is necessary to prevent installation failures or unexpected reboot requests caused by file locking, as the tabprotosrv.exe process retains various driver-related files in memory.
