Troubleshooting Salesforce Deployment Errors Between Orgs (Change Sets, Metadata API)

This guide provides common troubleshooting methods when errors occur during the release/deployment of components between organizations using Change Sets or Metadata API, and deployment does not complete.
If the problem is not resolved after checking this guide, please contact Salesforce Support with the information listed at the end of this article.

First, confirm and record basic information about the error.

Basic Error Information

  • Specific time the error occurred (e.g., 2025/06/10 17:00:00 - 17:00:30)

    • Please include the time zone when inquiring.

  • Does it only occur in specific organizations?

  • Does it only occur for specific users?

  • Does it only occur for specific components?

  • Was it previously possible to release but suddenly stopped working? / Is this the first time releasing this component?

  • Is an error message displayed on the screen?

Break Down 

  • Do the environments of the source organization and the target organization (version, license, activation status of settings, etc.) match?

  • Does the error still occur when components are narrowed down to the minimum combination?

  • Do the components satisfy dependencies?

  • Does the user performing the operation have the necessary permissions to release the target components? (Related Document)

  • Is the combination of the component and deployment method being attempted valid in the Metadata Coverage Report?

When working with Salesforce CLI, please check the following additional points:

  • Is Salesforce CLI (sf command) up to date? (Related Document)

  • Are there any network connection issues between the terminal and the Salesforce organization?

  • Is the sourceApiVersion in the sfdx-project.json file set appropriately?

When working with DevOps Center, please check the following additional point:

  • Is the error described in the related document?

  • Does the error still occur when the operating user's language setting is changed to English?

If the problem is not resolved after confirming all the contents of the above guide, please provide the following information for investigation in your environment and for reproduction in our verification environment.

Information to Provide to Support

  • Source Organization ID

  • Target Organization ID

  • Release Name (ID) that can be confirmed from the Deployment Status page of the target organization

  • Deployment Method (Change Set, Metadata API, DevOps Center, etc.)

  • Specific Error Reproduction Steps

  • Information obtained from "Basic Error Information" above (recent occurrence date and time, scope of occurrence, message content, etc.)

  • Information confirmed in "Isolation Points" above

  • Username of the user who set login access permissions by referring to Related Articles

When working with Salesforce CLI, please provide the following additional information:

  • `package.xml` used for deployment

  • Zip file compressed with the minimum components (metadata files) that cause the error

When working with DevOps Center, please provide the following additional information:

  • Target Project Name

  • Work Item Name (WI-xxxxxx)

  • Screenshot confirming the status on the source control system (GitHub, etc.)
