Description
When sending push notifications via MobilePush in Marketing Cloud Engagement, the open count displayed on the MobilePush management screen may differ from the open count (MessageOpened) output in the MobilePush Detail Extract Report. This article explains why this discrepancy occurs and what each value represents.

About the Discrepancy in Open Count
The open count on the MobilePush screen and the open count in the MobilePush Detail Extract Report use different methods for counting opens.
  • Open count on the MobilePush screen [Field name: Opens]
    • This is the total number of times the push notification was opened. If multiple opens are recorded from a single DeviceID, each open is counted separately.
  • Open count in the MobilePush Detail Extract Report [Field name: MessageOpened]
    • This is the open count per Device that opened the push notification. If multiple opens are recorded from a single DeviceID, they are counted as 1.
If there is a discrepancy between these values, the difference represents the number of duplicate opens.

 

Note:
On the MobilePush screen, it is not possible to see which Device opened the notification or who opened it multiple times. For detailed analysis, consider using the MobilePush Detail Extract Report or integrating with an external analytics tool.
