Salesforce Matching Rules: Exact Matching Method Only Evaluates the First 99 Characters

Date de publication: Apr 2, 2026
Description

The Exact Matching Method only searches for strings that match the first 99 characters. Therefore, even if there is a non-matching string after the 100th character, it is not evaluated as a duplicate.

Résolution

This is a known limitation of the Exact Matching Method in Salesforce Matching Rules , it is working as designed. If your org requires duplicate detection based on strings longer than 99 characters, consider using the Fuzzy Matching Method instead, which evaluates the full field value or ensure your matching field values are trimmed to within the 99-character threshold before import. Review your Matching Rule field selections to confirm the appropriate method is applied.
