What's changing?

Starting January 31, 2026, all Tableau customers must enable Transport Layer Security (TLS) on their receiving and sending mail servers (if applicable) using STARTTLS.

Mail Servers receiving (or sending) the following email types will now require TLS:

  • TableauId - Ex. Tableau.com password resets, account activation, etc.
  • Tableau Cloud Manager (TCM) - Ex. Tableau Cloud User invitations and activation emails
  • SiteSAML - Ex. Confirm your email address after clicking Forgot URI.
  • Subscription Email Notifications
  • Alerts and Data Driven Notifications

Why this change?

At Salesforce, Trust is our #1 value. Following the Tableau Cloud Hyperforce migration, Salesforce Security is enforcing security best practices for all of our Tableau Cloud customers, and enabling TLS on mail servers will now be required.

What environment is the change being made?

  • Tableau Cloud
  • TableauId

What action should I take?

Before January 31, 2026, ensure your organization’s mail servers are configured to support STARTTLS.  If TLS (using STARTLS) isn’t enabled on your mail server by then, your organization will no longer receive emails from Tableau Cloud and TableauID, including reports, alerts, and notifications.

Important Notes

  • Because every customer's mail server configuration is unique, Tableau recommends working with internal IT teams or mail server providers to confirm TLS is enabled and to make any changes to the mail server.
  • For those customers who have customized their Tableau Cloud email notifications to send emails using a dedicated SMTP mail server,  TLS (using STARTLS) must be enabled on this mail server as well.
  • All customers are expected to enable TLS 1.2 or 1.3 on their mail servers - no exceptions will be made.
  • For optimal security, an upgrade to TLS 1.3 is recommended, although TLS 1.2 remains supported.
