This article provides a resolution for the "insufficient access rights on cross-reference id" error when adding Products to an Opportunity. The error is caused by insufficient "Use" access to the associated Price Book. This issue affects Opportunity Products and can be resolved by changing the Price Book Sharing Settings.
For example, a sales rep opens an Opportunity and attempts to add a product from the Products related list, but immediately receives this error. The rep has the correct object permissions but was never granted Use access to the relevant Price Book
This error occurs because the user attempting to add Opportunity Products does not have the "Use" access permission to the relevant Price Book.
Follow these steps to change the sharing settings for the relevant Price Book.
Note: As of this writing, Price Book sharing settings can only be modified in Salesforce Classic. There is currently no equivalent path in Lightning Experience for this specific configuration.
