Salesforce Reports: Cannot Group or Summarize by Multi-Select Picklist Fields

Fecha de publicación: Nov 17, 2025
Descripción

For example, a service team tracking which product features are associated with support cases using a multi-select picklist cannot directly group or count cases by individual picklist values in a report. The formula field workaround allows each value to be tracked individually as a checkbox or number field.

Solución

In Sales, due to standard specifications, you cannot directly use 'Multi-Select Picklist' fields for grouping or summarizing values in 'Reports'.

Workaround: Summarizing with Formula Fields

As a workaround, you can create individual formula fields (such as Checkbox or Number type) for each picklist value you want to aggregate, and then use those formula fields in your report.

  1. Create a formula field (Return Type: Number or Checkbox) on the target object that checks if a specific value is included in the 'Multi-Select Picklist'.
  2. Add the newly created formula field to your report and use this field for summarization (e.g., Sum or Grouping).
