This article explains why the error "You can't perform this action on this page." occurs during a "Update a Record" quick action. This issue typically arises when a user lacks Read access to a record linked via a lookup field included in the action layout.
When attempting to execute an "Update a Record" quick action, the following error message is displayed: "You can't perform this action on this page."
This error may be caused by a lookup relationship field configured in the quick action layout. It occurs when a user has Read access to the lookup field itself but lacks Read access to the specific record currently referenced in that field on the layout.
To resolve this issue, perform one of the following procedures:
A. Grant permissions to the referenced record
Grant the necessary permissions (such as Sharing Settings) to the affected user to ensure they have Read access to the referenced record displayed in the action layout.
B. Modify the action layout to hide the lookup field
From Setup, navigate to Buttons, Links, and Actions for the object.
Edit the Layout for the relevant quick action.
Remove the lookup field that the user may not have Read access to from the layout.
Click Save.
