Impact and Required Steps When Updating Marketing Cloud Connect API User Credentials

Veröffentlichungsdatum: Dec 15, 2025
Beschreibung

Updating the API User credentials (password reset or re-authentication) in Marketing Cloud Connect (MCC) resets the authentication token and affects email sending processes. Sending stoppages and other measures are required before proceeding.

Lösung
For stable operation of Marketing Cloud Connect (MCC), the API User credentials on the Marketing Cloud side must be correctly configured.

Note: Resetting the password or re-authenticating the MC API User affects all connected email sending processes. Sending stoppages and other measures are required before proceeding.

MC API User Update

Changing the password of the connected user (MC API User) in Marketing Cloud Connect (MCC) will sever the connection with Salesforce, causing CRM-initiated sends, Journey Builder entries, and other processes to stop. To minimize system impact, please review and implement the precautionary measures below before proceeding.

Anticipated Impact

  • Failure of Triggered Sends
  • Stoppage of Sales Cloud (CRM)-initiated scheduled sends
  • Journey Builder entry failures: Entries into Journeys using Salesforce Data entry sources will fail

Mandatory Precautionary Measures

Before updating the API User information (especially password reset and re-authentication), complete the following:

  • Pause all active email sending processes.
  • Disable all Triggered Send definitions.
  • Stop all Journeys using a Salesforce Data entry source.

Key Considerations

While performing the operation during a time window with no Triggered Sends or scheduled sends may seem viable, re-authenticating the API User itself can impact the underlying email sending infrastructure and carries the risk of stopping processes. Therefore, timing alone is not sufficient. It is necessary to implement the "Mandatory Precautionary Measures" (stopping sends) above before the operation, then restart and restore processes after completion.

Post-Update Verification (Recommended)

After changing the credentials of the user used for the connection, it is recommended to verify that all currently used Marketing Cloud Connect features — including data synchronization (Synchronized Data Extensions), Individual Email Results (IER) sync, Triggered Sends, and Journey Builder entries — are functioning as expected.
