Note: The behavior described in this article is based on observations at the time of writing. This behavior may change in future updates.

 

When creating a segment, the Data Model Objects (DMOs) that appear under Direct Attributes and Related Attributes are based on the relationship types configured in the Relationships tab. The display rules for single-level and multi-level scenarios are outlined below.

 

Display Rules

Single-Level Rule

  • Target DMO -> 1:1 or N:1 Relationship = Displayed as Direct Attribute.

  • Target DMO -> 1:N Relationship = Displayed as Related Attribute.

 

Multi-Level Rules (Non-Display Patterns)

In multi-level relationships, DMOs may not be displayed in certain combinations.

  • Direct Attribute (N:1) -> 1:N Combination: A DMO linked via 1:N to a DMO (Direct Attribute) that is linked via N:1 from the target DMO will not be displayed. (Example: Object -> N:1 RelationB -> 1:N RelationI)

  • Related Attribute (1:N) -> N:1 Combination: A DMO linked via N:1 to a DMO (Related Attribute) that is linked via 1:N from the target DMO will not be displayed. (Example: Object -> 1:N RelationC -> N:1 RelationK)

 

Display Behavior in Single-Level Relationships

The display results for the target DMO (Data Model Object) based on the relationship type set in the Relationships tab are as follows.
