Offline Activation File Cannot Be Reused on Tableau Server

Data pubblicazione: Dec 15, 2025
Descrizione

Description:

When migrating Tableau Server using an offline activation to a new environment, the offline activation file (OfflineActivationLicensingAtrs.zip with FlexNet or OfflineActivationRequestFile_yyyyMMdd.hhmmss.json with ATR) from the original Tableau Server cannot be reused.

Cause:

The offline activation file is tied to the specific Tableau Server where it was generated. Therefore, this file is only valid for the machine that created the activation request file. Therefore, a new offline activation file must be generated on the new environment for the same product key.

Risoluzione

When migrating Tableau Server to a new environment

  1. Deactivate the license on the old server first if using FlexNet (deactivation is not necessary if using ATR)
  2. Generate a new activation request file and obtain a new activation response (activation.tlf for FlexNet or OfflineActivationLicensingAtrs.zip for ATR) for the new server.

In the event of a disaster where the original server becomes inaccessible

  1. Use the same product key to generate a new activation request for Tableau Server on a new environment.

Note: If you are not able to register the key due to exceeding maximum activations, please contact Tableau Support. As a preventive measure when using FlexNet, you can generate a TableauOfflineDeactivationRequest.tlq file in advance using the command: tsm licenses get-offline-deactivation-file -k -o . Keep this file for use in case of a disaster. In the event of a disaster, the product key can be deactivated by utilizing the saved tlq file.
