SAP RFC Returning Null After Connector 5.9.x Upgrade

When using SAP Connector 5.9.x, SAP RFC calls may return null responses even when the payload matches the RFC structure. This occurs because the updated RFC operations introduced in 5.9.x are compatible only with JCo/IDoc 3.1.x. If the application is packaged with JCo/IDoc 3.0.x, MuleSoft may send incomplete or missing field data to SAP, resulting in a null response. Upgrading the JCo and IDoc libraries to 3.1.x resolves the issue.

1. Upgrade SAP Libraries

Ensure the application uses:

  • SAP JCo 3.1.x

  • SAP IDoc 3.1.x

2. Use the Correct RFC Operations

Use:

  • Synchronous Remote Function Call

  • Asynchronous Remote Function Call

Avoid deprecated operations that depend on JCo 3.0.x.
