"Change Owner" Button Not Displayed in Lightning Experience List Views

This article explains why the "Change Owner" button may be missing from list views in Lightning Experience, even though it is visible in Salesforce Classic.

This behavior occurs because Lightning Experience uses a different button configuration for mass ownership changes. The button labeled Change Owner [ChangeOwner] is designed for Salesforce Classic only, while Lightning Experience requires a separate button.

For example, an administrator may notice that users cannot mass-transfer records from a list view in Lightning, even though the option exists in Classic. This typically indicates that the Lightning-specific button has not been enabled.

Root Cause

The Change Owner [ChangeOwner] button is only supported in Salesforce Classic. Lightning Experience requires the Change Owner [MassChangeOwner] button to be enabled.

Steps to Enable the Button in Lightning Experience

  1. Go to Setup
  2. Navigate to Object Manager and select the target object
  3. Click List View Button Layout
  4. Click the dropdown arrow next to List View and select Edit
  5. In the Standard Buttons section:
    1. Deselect Change Owner [ChangeOwner] (Classic)
    2. Select Change Owner [MassChangeOwner] (Lightning)
  6. Click Save

  • The Change Owner [ChangeOwner] button applies only to Salesforce Classic
  • The Change Owner [MassChangeOwner] button is required for Lightning Experience
  • To support both interfaces, enable both buttons in the layout
