Descripción

This guide outlines the procedure for exporting the "MobilePush Detail Extract Report"—used to verify detailed MobilePush sending performance—to the Enhanced FTP using Automation Studio. This step-by-step walkthrough is intended for verifying the initial configuration and establishing the export workflow.

Solución

The following steps outline how to generate the MobilePush Detail Extract Report using Automation Studio and output it to the Enhanced FTP site.

Prerequisites

  • You must have access to the Enhanced FTP site and permission to download files.

  • The primary purpose of this procedure is to verify the initial configuration. Please adjust file naming conventions and schedules according to your specific requirements for actual production use.

Step 1: Create a New Automation

  1. Open Automation Studio from the Marketing Cloud menu.

  2. Click New Automation in the top right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Configure Activities

From the Activities list on the left, drag and drop the following icons onto the canvas:

  • Starting Source: [Schedule]

  • Step 1: [Data Extract]

  • Step 2: [File Transfer]

Step 3: Configure Data Extract (Automation Step 1)

Create a definition to extract detailed MobilePush data.

  1. Click Choose inside the "Data Extract" activity you placed, and select Create New Data Extract Activity.

  2. Configure the Properties:

    • Name: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., MobilePush_Detail_Extract_Daily).

    • File Naming Pattern: Enter the desired output filename. Ensure the extension is .zip (e.g., MobilePushData.zip).

Important: Make a note of the filename specified here, as you must reference it exactly in the subsequent "File Transfer" settings.

    • Extract Type: Select MobilePush Detail Extract Report.

Note: If this option does not appear in the dropdown, you must request activation from Salesforce Support. Please contact them with your MID (Member ID).

  3. Configure the Configuration settings:

    • Date Range: Specify the period you want to extract. Ensure the date of your test send is included. For testing purposes, it is recommended to select Specific Range and set it to 1 day before and after the send date.

      • Example: If the send occurred on Oct 10, set the range from Oct 9 to Oct 11.

      • Note for Production: For scheduled automation in a production environment, select Rolling Range (e.g., 1 Day or 7 Days). Be cautious not to set the range too wide, as this will increase data volume and automation runtime.
    • Apply Time Zone: Check this box and specify the desired time zone.

  4. Review your settings, click Next, and then click Finish.

Step 4: Configure File Transfer (Automation Step 2)

Create a definition to move the extracted file from the "Safehouse" area to your FTP server.

  1. Click Choose inside the "File Transfer" activity you placed, and select Create New File Transfer Activity.

  2. Configure the Properties:

    • Name: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., Move_MobilePush_Data_To_FTP).

    • File Action: Select Move a File From Safehouse.

  3. Configure the Configuration settings:

    • File Naming Pattern: Enter the exact string used in the "File Naming Pattern" from Step 3 (e.g., MobilePushData.zip).

Warning: If these patterns do not match exactly, the file will not be found, resulting in an error.

    • Destination: Select the transfer destination directory (e.g., ExactTarget Enhanced FTP). This typically points to the root of the Import directory on your SFTP site.

  4. Review your settings, click Next, and then click Finish.

Step 5: Save and Run the Automation

  1. Click the Save button in the top right corner.

    • Name: Enter a name for the entire Automation and save it in your desired location (e.g., Daily_MobilePush_Extract_Automation).

  2. Click Run Once in the top right corner to verify the operation.

  3. Select the activities for Step 1 and Step 2, then click Run.

  4. Confirm the activities to be executed (ensure the ones created above are selected) and click Run Now.

  5. Navigate to the Activity tab and wait for the Automation to complete successfully.

    • Note: It may take 1–2 minutes for the Run Once request to start.

  6. Once completed successfully, verify that the file has been generated in the specified location.

    • If you selected ExactTarget Enhanced FTP, check directly under the Import directory of your SFTP site.

Verification & Reference

The file will be in ZIP format. Unzip the file to retrieve the CSV, then open the CSV file in Excel or similar software to verify the sending data. For details on how to interpret the data recorded in this report, please refer to the articles below.

Note : About "Apply Time Zone" option

This setting controls the reference time zone for the output timestamp and extraction range. To prevent data discrepancies, it is generally recommended to keep this checked.

Considerations for Storing Data in Data Extensions

When storing extracted data into a Data Extension (DE) for segmentation, please consider the following:

  • Store only necessary data: Query/Filter activities take longer based on data volume. Since Query Activities have a 30-minute timeout limit, avoid storing all raw data. Instead, store only necessary fields and filter by date range.

  • Consider external processing: If timeouts occur frequently despite optimization, consider processing the CSV data externally before importing it back into Marketing Cloud, rather than relying solely on Query Activities.
