How to Sign Up for Trailhead with a Developer Edition

Introduction

The most efficient way to sign up for Trailhead is using a social account, your Salesforce login, or a personal email address. However, if you don't want to use any of those, you can sign up with a free Salesforce Developer Edition.

What's a Developer Edition?

It's a free Salesforce org where you can try out new features. As long as you log in at least once every 6 months, it doesn't expire. Read more about developer edition orgs in the article Trailhead Playground and Developer Edition Orgs Overview

Sign up for a Developer Edition

Follow the instructions below to sign up for a developer edition org:
  1. Go to developer.salesforce.com/signup.
  2. Follow the prompts to sign up. Make sure you fill in:
  • Email: Use a real email address
  • Username: Use a unique username that is formed like an email address
    • Good usernames: rickroll@nevergonnagiveyouup.com, fake@fakeusername.com, notarealemail@imagination.com
    • Bad usernames: your production username for Salesforce or any username you already use to log in to Salesforce

Activate the Developer Edition

  1. Once you submit the form, you'll get an activation email.
  2. Click the link in the email and set a password and security question.
  3. Wait about 3-4 minutes before trying to log in to Trailhead.

Sign up for Trailhead

  1. Go to trailhead.com and click Sign Up.
  2. Click Sign up with Salesforce.
  3. Use your Developer Edition username and password to sign up.
  4. Follow the prompts to create a new Trailhead account.

Connect the Developer Edition for Challenges

  1. Click your Trailhead profile picture to access the menu.
  2. Select Hands-on Orgs.
  3. Click Connect org.
  4. Sign in with your Developer Edition username and password.
You're also welcome to create up to 10 Trailhead Playgrounds for use when doing challenges on Trailhead. To create a Trailhead Playground, go to any hands-on challenge on Trailhead, and select the down arrow new to Launch. Select Create a Trailhead Playground. It takes about 3-4 minutes to create a new Trailhead Playground.

Now you're signed up with your Developer Edition and ready to do challenges on Trailhead with your Developer Edition.
