Tableau eLearning allows you to easily onboard and educate your team in a consistent and scalable way. eLearning courses help users learn the ins and outs of Tableau at their own pace when their schedules allow. Knowledge checks and hands-on activities ensure information is retained. The progress of each student is tracked so you can maximize your investment in Tableau education.

Getting Started

What are the technology requirements/system requirements for using Tableau eLearning?

You will need:

  • A version of the software (Tableau Desktop and/or Tableau Prep) that you want to learn through eLearning that has been released within the last year.
  • An Internet connection of 10Mbps or higher.
  • Internet access to the Skilljar platform and relevant resources.
  • The ability to listen to audio (headphones are recommended).
  • The ability to download ~5MB activity files to your computer.
  • A Tableau eLearning-supported browser. We support recent desktop versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari — running on a version of Windows currently supported by Microsoft or a version of macOS supported by Apple.

What product version is eLearning based on?

Tableau eLearning is continuously refreshed to reflect the latest capabilities of Tableau. The current updates include new content in Tableau Fundamentals (formerly Desktop I: Fundamentals) and Tableau Intermediate (formerly Desktop II: Intermediate) and are based on Tableau versions starting with 2020. These updates also embrace more of the Tableau platform that apply to authoring on Tableau Desktop, Tableau Cloud, and Tableau Server.

How do I sign in/log in to my eLearning account for the first time?

Please follow the instructions in your Tableau eLearning order details to find your eLearning access code.

Sign in with your eLearning for Explorer access code: 

1. Go to https://explorer-elearning.tableau.com
2. Create (or login to) your TableauID account
3. Confirm your email address via the TableauID confirmation email
4. Go to https://explorer-elearning.tableau.com and log on using your TableauID
5. Register at the Tableau Learning Center with the access code provided by your organization’s Central Admin.
6. Start using eLearning by clicking on a Course or Learning Path. 
7. Return to https://explorer-elearning.tableau.com to continue using Tableau eLearning.

Sign in with your eLearning for Creator access code: 

1. Go to http://elearning.tableau.com
2. Create (or login to) your TableauID account
3. Confirm your email address via the TableauID confirmation email
4. Go to http://elearning.tableau.com and log on using your TableauID
5. Register at the Tableau Learning Center with the access code provided by your organization’s Central Admin.
6. Start using eLearning by clicking on a Course or Learning Path. 
7. Return to http://elearning.tableau.com to continue using Tableau eLearning.

How do I create a Tableau ID?

Go to https://id.tableau.com/ to begin creating a Tableau ID account.

  1. Fill out and submit the form.
  2. Confirm your email address via the Tableau ID confirmation email.

NOTE: A Tableau ID alone does not grant you access to Tableau eLearning. You must use your Tableau ID to register using the access code provided by your organization's Central Administrator. Review "What is my Access Code?" belowfor more information.

What is my access code?

Your Tableau eLearning access code is needed to register for eLearning the first time you sign in. Ask your organization’s Central Administrator for your access code if you don't have an Access code. Please log a case if you need further assistance.

Why am I not able to login again to eLearning when I was able to log in the first time?

Please ensure you are logging in to the correct URL listed in Step 1 of the sign-in instructions above. Please note there are separate URLs for eLearning for Explorer and eLearning for Creator licenses. You do not need to redeem your eLearning code again once you've already redeemed it. If you are encountering issues accessing eLearning, please try the steps below to successfully log in:

  1. Try a different web browser (Chrome is recommended)
  2. Clear cache and cookies in your web browser
  3. Open an incognito window and follow the login steps again

Purchasing

How do I purchase/get access to Tableau’s eLearning? How can I view a sample of Tableau eLearning?

Visit tableau.com/elearning to learn more about our eLearning, try out a free sample, and purchase it for you or your organization with a credit card. Please review Tableau Help or log a case if you need further assistance. 

What does my Tableau eLearning subscription include?

Tableau eLearning includes interactive courses designed to help you learn Tableau at your own pace. Hands-on activities and knowledge checks ensure you retain what you learn. Your progress is captured so you can monitor your results and stay engaged with the content. Your subscription includes access to multiple Learning Paths with courses, skills assessments, and digital Skill Badges.

How do I request an invoice/receipt for my eLearning purchase?

Please log a case and include your order number in your case.

Can I purchase a single eLearning code for someone else using a credit card?

No. At this time, it is not possible to reassign a single seat purchased with a credit card. The individual who will be using the eLearning should make the purchase themselves.

Can I purchase eLearning for only the months that I need instead of for the full year?

No, Tableau eLearning must be purchased for the full year.

 

Learning Experience

What are role-based Learning Paths?

Learning Paths are curated learning resources, skills assessments to measure your technical knowledge, and digital badges to show off your skills on social media. Learn more about Learning Paths.

Why is there only one Learning Path for the Author role?

The Author Learning Path is an update and consolidation of the previous Desktop Author and Web Author Learning Paths. This single Learning Path better aligns with the Author's role, organizes the content into a more meaningful structure, and includes coverage of the latest Tableau features. All the content offered in the two separate Learning Paths is still available, plus all-new modules.

How do I make the eLearning user window larger?

On a lesson page, you can make the eLearning larger by clicking the expand button in the bottom right corner.
Or click the left arrow button in the top middle of the page.

I downloaded the activity files, but I don’t know where they went. How can I find them?

Open your browser’s default folder for downloads.

How do I view my profile page?

To get to your profile page, in the top right corner, click the drop-down arrow next to your profile image, and then click My Profile.

How do I change my profile picture?

In the top right corner, click the drop-down arrow next to your profile image, and then click My Profile. On your profile image, click Update. Browse to and select the image you want, and then click Open. The image will update.

Where can I see my course completion history?

Open your profile page to view additional details about your course completion history.

How can I see my progress?

On the Course Overview page, you’ll see check marks next to lessons you’ve completed, as well as a count of lessons completed out of the total number of lessons under the course title, in the top right corner.

How do I find out when my eLearning subscription expires?

Your subscription expiration date may be in the invitation email from your Central Administrator. Otherwise, contact your Central Administrator. If you purchased your own eLearning license with a credit card then your expiration is one year from the date of purchase.

How can I suggest improvements to the eLearning? How do I request a new eLearning feature?

  1. A description of the error encountered, including full-page screenshots, URL, and/or screen recording video
  2. Details of the module or learning path

Badges, Certificates, and Certification

How do I earn a Skills Badge?

To earn a Skills Badge, sign in to Tableau eLearning and select the Learning Path that best suits your role. Every Learning Path includes Skills Assessments, which test your understanding of the skills taught in the Learning Path. Once you complete the assessments, you will be issued a digital badge through our badging partner, Credly. For more information, see Learning designed just for you.

What is the difference between a Skill Badge and Certification?

Skill Badges reward you for your learning achievements. Earning badges builds confidence that you understand the skills needed to be successful in certain roles. Certification proves your proficiency in the product and provides a common language for the multitude of different ways users build their skill set. The rigor of proctoring and hands-on questions validates your skills for others, no matter where you are in your Tableau journey.

Can eLearning Badges be displayed on my Trailblazer Profile?

Salesforce, including Tableau, certifications are integrated with and displayed on your Trailblazer profile, but Tableau eLearning Skills Badges (earned through Tableau eLearning courses) continue to be accessible through Credly, not on your Trailblazer profile.

How can eLearning help me prepare for Certification?

Every Certification exam has an Exam Prep Guide that outlines the skills covered in the exam. We recommend reading through the guide to determine what areas you should focus your preparation on and then searching for applicable lessons in eLearning. Many of the classroom courses recommended in the exam details are also available via eLearning as well. Is Tableau eLearning eligible for Continuing Education Credit (CEC) hours?

Tableau training is a great opportunity to improve your analysis and data visualization skills all while earning hours that can be submitted for professional certification or other training goals.

Certificates of Completion for each paid course note the number of hours and course details needed to submit for recognition of continuing education hours from professional institutions.

Important: It is the student’s responsibility to ensure their training is submitted properly for recognition of hours. All governing bodies have final authority over the acceptance of individual courses for continuing education credits.

Which Tableau eLearning courses generate a Certificate of Completion for CEC hours?

Certificates of completion are only generated for courses within paid eLearning subscriptions (eLearning for Creator and eLearning for Explorer). Free courses do not generate certificates of completion.

Free courses that do not generate Certificates of Completion: the Data Literacy for All series, Getting Started with Tableau, Getting Started with Tableau Desktop, Getting Started with Tableau Server, or the Community Leader and Executive Sponsor Learning Paths.

How do I print my Certificate of Completion?

View and print your certificate of completion from your profile page. To get to your profile page, in the top right corner, click the drop-down arrow next to your profile image, and then click My Profile. Click View certificate, and then click the certificate itself to open or download a printable PDF of your certificate.

How many CEC hours is each course eligible for?

CEC hours are listed at the bottom of each course description, on the About This Course tab.

Where can I find my Certificate of Completion?

Certificates of Completion are available in your Skilljar user profile after you complete any course after Sept 15, 2020. Certificates of Completion are only issued for paid eLearning courses — not for assessments, badges, free courses, or Learning Paths. (Each course in a Learning Path has its certificate of completion.)

  1. At the top right of any page in Tableau eLearning, click Profile.
  2. In the Registrations section (scroll down if necessary) the Status column includes a link to the Certificate of Completion.

A static, sharable hyperlink to your CEC Certificate of Completion is provided at the bottom of your PDF certificate.

What happened to the Role badges?

To provide customers more opportunities to assess their skills, and for better alignment with the new role-based certifications, we are making the following changes to Tableau badges.

  • In August 2021, Role Badges were replaced by Skills Badges (i.e. Get Started with Tableau, Interact with Dashboards & Reports). The Skills badges provide customers with more opportunities to assess their knowledge and earn badges along the way.
  • For each Learning Path, you will now see Skill badges replace the previous Role badges, for example, Building Visualizations and Dashboards instead of Author.

If I earned a badge that is no longer available, where can I access it?

You can access all of your eLearning badges from your Credly account at https://www.credly.com/users/sign_in even if they are no longer available for new earners.
