This article explains why users continue to receive both pop-up reminder cards and bell notifications for Activities (Events and Tasks) in Lightning Experience, even when they want to disable only one of these notification types.
In Lightning Experience, Activity Reminder settings are managed in Personal Settings → Calendar & Reminders → Activity Reminders. These settings control how reminders are delivered.
For example, a user may ask: “Why do I keep getting pop-up reminders when I only want the bell notification?” This occurs because both notification types are tied to the same setting and cannot be configured separately.
In Activity Reminders personal settings, enabling the following options triggers both a card-style pop-up reminder and a bell notification at the scheduled time:
There is no available setting to disable only the pop-up (card display) or only the bell notification. These notifications are linked and function together - either both are enabled or both are disabled.
This is expected behavior in Lightning Experience. Users who want to avoid pop-up reminders must disable Activity Reminders entirely, which also disables bell notifications.
